Brasseye. For the last fortnight the UK has been gripped by the story of 2 missing 10 year old girls. First let me state that I feel the same way about this story as almost every other person in the country. I am horrified that this could happen. I fear for the safety of my own 10 year old daughter. My heart goes out to their families but most of all to them. I cling to the hope that they are alive.
However, I feel the reporting by the UK media has been a little over the top and verged on obsessive at times. Half hourly updates, newsflashes during advertisement breaks, interviews with anyone even remotely connected with the family or area. Whilst I have been sat at my PC this afternoon I have had a 24 hours news channel on. Over the last half hour they have shown the same report 5 times.
With this sort of saturation reporting, is it any wonder that we all feel the world is going to hell on a handbag?
This was exactly the sort of media feeding frenzy that Chris Morris was parodying with the hugely controversial Paedophilia Brass Eye episode.

Sticks and Stones.... Found via a link at Cheryl's place. I don't believe in any of this sort of thing but its always good for a laugh.

Your first name of Paul creates a dual nature for you desire to systematize your life to progress step by step (me? systemise? You gotta be kidding.), but so frequently, you are taken into new experiences, instability, and change. You are intrigued by a challenge, especially in mechanical and technical fields (Yup. That bits right). Scientific concepts appeal to you (and that). You like activities that require physical effort (not a chance!) as well as mental ingenuity. Your questioning, critical, practical nature makes you prove all ideas to your own satisfaction, rarely accepting anyone's word or ideas (Huh?). At times you are torn between your desire for system and order (nope!) and your desire for change and new experiences. You have to guard against impatience and criticism of the weaknesses of others. Your impulsive nature could lead to accidents. Physical weaknesses would show in the digestive tract and stomach.

This used to be my playground...... My old high school now looks like this:

Image shamelessly stolen from www.expressandstar.com our excellent regional newspaper.
Just another brick in the wall. My old high school burnt down last night.
The adult in me recognises the damage and disruption this will cause, especially as today was the day that the 18 year olds were supposed to have picked up their A level exam results. We are also just 2 weeks away from the start of the new school year so there's some quick work to be done to provide hundreds of children with somewhere to learn. The building itself was in excess of 100 years old and of historic interest.
However, I spent 5 years at that school wishing for and dreaming about such an occurance. Its difficult not to have a tiny part of me see this as some kind of fulfilment of those hopes, all be it 15 years too late.
Luckily no one was hurt. I hope that they manage to organise something for the pupils without too much delay.

Wasting Time. Today has been a "treading water" day pretty much. And this is what I've acheived.

So what the hell is Histrionic? Now I feel like a nut job if I hadn't before.

"How BIG is your man?" - Courtesy of this story at Ananova. Apparently these people reckon they can calculate the size of any bloke's "bits" using just the size of their Hands, Feet and Nose. I put my details in and it came out a bit short. Honest.

Finally, I want this t-shirt.
Asta la Siesta Baby! Just took a huuuuuuge nap with Connor lying on my chest. How nice is that! There is something incredibly comforting and relaxing about having a baby lying on your chest. I'm a great believer in the Siesta anyway. I think corporate lunch hours should be extended to 2 hours and rooms provided to relax and lie down. There is some proof that this actually improves productivity.
Unfortunately the real aficionados of the siesta, the people of the south-Mediterranean and Latin America, have been abandoning it in favour of Americanised / Anglicised working hours. Shame.
Yes, I'm ecstatic! Having a baby is one of the most fulfilling, rewarding and, above all, happy times of our life. At least, that's what everyone else thinks you should be going through. In reality whilst it is fulfilling and rewarding, I can't honestly say that I am feeling particularly happy at the moment.
Connor is a very placid baby during the day but refuses to settle at night. Sharon and I take it in shifts to look after him but we're both exhausted.
James has become a little tyrant over the last few weeks. He is still basically a good kid but at the moment is constantly pushing at the boundaries. We knew something like this would come when Connor was born but still it tests our patience to the full.
The house spends more time looking like the sorting room for charity shop donations than somewhere suitable for a family of 5, and that only gets us more stressed.
Family and friends, especially those without children, expect us to be filled with joy at the arrival of our son and seem astonished to be greeted by 2 worn out zombies who are occasionally on the verge of tears.
What we need is a routine. We need things to settle down. Its been a huge change for all of us and we need a return to some normality. I know its coming and I look forward to the day when we can wake up feeling happy. Until then I will have to settle for proud, paternal and fulfilled.
Ouch! A Thai pensioner has impaled one of his testicles on an iron railing after he lost his footing while trying to steal fruit.
