Disappointment - According to The Daily Telegraph 9 out of the 11 British human shield have gone home already.
Their politics are vastly different to mine and, I have to admit, I thought them rather foolish and idealistic when they set of on their mission. But you have to feel sorry for them.
They have left, it appears, not because they wavered in the face of the increasing likelihood of war. They left because, in spite of everything they hoped to achieve for the Iraqi people, the Iraqi Government subverted their mission. Once in Iraq they were not allowed to "shield" civilian buildings like orphanages, hospitals and schools. The Iraqi government placed them in strategically important structures like water refineries, power stations and oil refineries.
Whatever you feel about the war, you have to feel sorry for these people who were prepared to lay their lives on the line for something they believed in, only to "used" in this fashion.
