Aaaaaand relax...... - What a week at work! The last 3 days have been absolutely hectic and I've been getting home completely knackered.
My stack of ongoing cases is getting higher every day and the work involved in each seems to get more and more technical. They're really stretching my technical knowledge and giving me a challenge to get my teeth into. To make things tenser, this week I've been flooded with technical phone calls so that I've barely been able to look at the cases I was intending to. I hope next week that I get chance to work through the existing clients and reduce my stress levels.
Most of my work involves technical negotiations, discussions and arguments with HM Customs & Excise. It been particularly demoralising recently because I've put hours of work into some technical arguments, some of which questions some very fundamental issues, and I've been getting responses from HM Customs & Excise that haven't even considered the points I've made. Four time last months I've had to write back and ask them to explain
why they've refused a reconsideration or appeal. On three occasions the case has suddenly been referred to a more senior officer for reconsideration. I wonder if its a deliberate policy to refuse without consideration in the hope that most people won't push it further.
Well it's time for the weekend and a chill out. So for the first time this week, I'm going to turn the PC off before 9pm and spend some time with my wife.
Hope you all have a relaxing weekend too.
