Work all day... I'm slap bang in the middle of 9 days of solid work (including 3 evenings) and I'm pretty knackered. Including discos and van driving, I worked 32 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Today I did a 12 hour day van driving because I had to cover a delivery round that I'm not familiar with.
To add insult to injury, I scraped the side of the van. My 8th day on the job and already I've had a prang. Bugger!
This is the lowest paid job I have had since I was a barman at the age of 18. However, the lack of stress and requirement for complex thought has a strange attraction. The most taxing element of the whole day is working out the best route to take to visit all of the drops in as little time as possible. Today, for example, I had 75 packages to deliver to 63 addresses. It would take about 15 minutes to drive from end of the round to the other, but I probably spent around 4 hours driving.
I also know why couriers have a reputation for a cavalier attitude to driving and parking. With 63 drops, if you wasted 60 seconds on each drop finding somewhere decent to park, and 30 additional seconds walking to the delivery, you'd have to work an extra hour and a half. Most drivers will get paid for 8 hours regardless of how long they actually work.

that's a nice rock!
